General ups categories:
Offline: (sometimes referred to as standby)
This method is the least expensive and offers basic backup
protection.
When a loss of mains voltage is detected the ups unit will switch to
battery supply, typically within 4 milliseconds.
Depending on load will determine the runtime, usually this will be
10 minutes, but could be as little as 3 minutes. This should give
enough time to power down computers, or if a backup generator is
installed enough time to start the generator manually, or start
automatically.
Online:
The online ups is always connected via the inverter, as such this
system is more reliable as battery condition is monitored and
voltage spikes are controlled giving a 'clean supply
